Sometimes, there’s a disconnect between what we think and how we feel. We know logically that we are not bad people, that people like us, or that we’ve had accomplishments worth being proud of- but we don’t feel that way. When this happens, we start to feel stuck. This is where EMDR therapy is helpful.
EMDR stands for eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing. It is a type of therapy that helps people achieve true healing by targeting deeply ingrained beliefs about themselves and the world around them. Since our beliefs are established and influenced by our experiences, we reprocess past experiences that have had lasting negative effects on our mental health and self-esteem.
People who participate in EMDR therapy are able to let go of unhelpful beliefs and adopt more helpful and self-compassionate views towards themselves and their experiences. After EMDR, when they encounter triggers there is little to no reactivity. They feel like their past negative experiences have less of an effect on their present- they achieve freedom.
I'll teach you skills for containing negative thoughts and feelings, and shifting into a calm emotional state.
Together, we'll identify and reprocess memories that created and strengthened negative beliefs and feelings about yourself and the world around you.
You'll recognize and strengthen new helpful beliefs about yourself and explore how to handle future situations more positively.
